Amazing food. Even better prices. Great place to grab a quick lunch! The atmosphere is so-so but the staff is incredibly friendly. The menu has your typical Chinese food and portion sizes, even on the lunch menu are more than enough to keep you stuffed. I will definitely be visiting again and again!

This is some sort of icon in Oak Ridge. One thing I have to say is that Jim & Betty knows how to give a show. Of all the places I've been to no one can top their friendliness and the vibe Magic Wok offers. Plus the portions are good and easy on the wallet.

Awesome food for the price, and the atmosphere is as unique as they come. Jim and Betty will make sure you leave happy, full, and with the best deal in town for lunch. While they have no menu, you can ask her to make you any number of dishes with the ingredients available. If you are a spicey food fan, you can literally make your meal so spicey it will drive the rest of the patrons out of the restaurant (seen it done on more than one occaision). This place is an Oak Ridge staple, and certainly as important to the local food culture as Big Ed's.

Good food at a good price. The ambiance is what makes it though. The trailer and dirt makes the atmosphere homey and the owners attempt at English makes the entertainment.

There are what, 4 other Chinese restaurants in town, not including Magic Wok? Magic Wok is a local owned establishment, ran by the two greatest people in Oak Ridge. They generally only have 3 menu options: Chicken Cashew, Spicy Chicken Cashew, and Sweet and Sour Chicken. The Sweet and Sour is the best. What the other reviewers havent mentioned though, is if there is something you don't like or whatever, Betty will try to make a dish for you. It's the thought that counts, and for her price, it's delicious. I always order Sweet n Sour and an eggroll, since it's just $1.00. Don't expect much, but there will be great food.

Stayed in Oak Ridge from out of town, was underwhelmed with the local restaurants until finding this gem. Clearly a local establishment and with good reason. Betty (the owner) greeted us as if we'd been coming there for years and everybody who came through the for knew Betty and Jim on a first name basis. Good food (especially for $5) but more importantly a great experience. Really turned around a bad day. Ignore the menu and just ask Betty what the options are, if they're out of something she'll be sure to tell you it's Jim's fault.

Betty and Jim have been amazing throughout the years. Have been a repeat customer since birth, my parents have been going there since before I was born. She makes the best food around, you can't beat the spicy chicken cashew, double meat with a bunch of fried wontons. Can't recommend highly enough!

Hmmm. Interesting. I really don't know how to start this one, however it's a town favorite. I'm Chinese, so I kind of have found my tastes in this category. However, since coworkers told me that this is an induction to the town that I had to eat here...well why not? If you have seen a hole in the wall, this is exactly that. They're tucked in between two buildings and its easy to miss it. This place is only opened during lunch times on weekdays and that's it. So obviously, it's on a very small time frame. My thoughts on the food? Well, plain and simple...I've definitely had better Chinese food. Then again, I'm not from this area so I'm just going to list what I thought wasn't so amazing and what I thought was interesting. First, when you walk in, there's absolutely no seating. Don't even think about getting a seat. Especially during lunch time. I came in and the man asks me what do I want? Spicy chicken or regular chicken? With cashews and egg roll? And that's it. Those are your two choices. Of course, I think there are off menu stuff but I can't be sure. We get take out, and head back to the office. Upon opening my box, it doesn't look that amazing. I kind of felt like it was from a Chinese cafeteria if they ever had one. The rice was soggy, which kind of turned me off of that. The chicken that they served wasn't bad, except it was sort of soupy. Sort of like just drenched in sauce and wasn't like a stir fry type of style. I could see how this happened considering that they only have two woks and that was it. They're egg roll: greasy. My father actually produces egg roll skins and well I know what it's supposed to taste like. This, I am definitely picky on. The filling wasn't that amazing either. I've definitely had better in this category. As you can see overall, I'm not a big fan of this place and I'm very surprised that this place is just always packed. I do have to take in account of the limited dining options in the town, which makes sense. More power to them getting business, however I believe this will be my first and last time of coming here.

This place is fantastic. A local icon, Magic Wok is the town favorite. It may not be authentic, but "Magic Betty's," as it's called, is tasty and quick. With no real menu, there is Cashew Chicken, Spicy Cashew Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Beef and Broccoli, and Vegetarian, but also wontons, egg rolls, and cream cheese wontons. If you're really hungry, get "double meat!" The Sweet and Sour is like nothing you've ever tasted as it's not that nasty red sauce, so often found, but Cashew is the favorite of many. Ordering is a bit odd. The tiny inside has about 6 stools and 3 booths, but there's a large back room you can sit at too. If you're inside, tell Betty or Jim (the owners) your order then sit until they call for you, then pay after. If you're in the back room, or to go, then order and pay at the window. The owners are the sweetest people in the world, but be careful, it gets super busy around lunch as every high school and college kid invades. Oh, cash only.

Quality varies from OK to good but at its best I wouldn't give it five stars. If you worked nearby I might see it as convenient if you somehow miss the meal rush.

Basically I want to second Bruce K's review as he describes it very well. However, unlike Bruce, I will probably go back. I think this is because the spicy chicken was fresh and hot and I guess I liked the give and take with the owner/cook. I walk in, she's cooking at the wok behind the counter, looks back over her shoulder and, instead of asking me what I want, she says "You want to try my cooking?" Had to smile and say "Sure!" Then, "You want spicy?" There is more seating than it looks. The trailer has about three/four tables for two and they were full at 12:30PM, but inside the building behind the trailer there is seating for about 20. In fact, I was with a group of 15. I don't know if they take reservations for the back room or not.

Don't let the look of the old, run down diner fool you. This place is good! I'm not sure what all is on the menu aside from spicy chicken cashew which comes in hot and extra spicy. If you opt for the extra spicy variety, you have the pleasure of hand grinding your own habanero chills to be used. Also on the menu are the best tasting egg rolls that I've ever had, and the things are huge!

This is absolutely one of my favorite places to eat in Oak Ridge. The cashew chicken is freshly cooked and delicious. Cream cheese Won tons and egg rolls are great as well. The food is great and it is a good value. I highly recommend it.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
